Welcome to the Bunker Questionnaire, a new series in which we ask Bunker Projects residents and exhibiting artists three questions from Marcel Proust’s famous Proust Questionnaire, a survey that purported to reveal a person’s true nature. We hope their answers and the accompanying photos allow you to get to know them and their work a little bit more.
Kathryn Shriver is a visual artist from Western New York, currently based in Pittsburgh, PA. Her work spans drawing, sculpture, silversmithing and writing, but is grounded in a technical approach to glass bead weaving, using a mix of domestic craft, hobbyist media, and academic approaches to challenge and deconstruct the tensions between differing perceptions of creativity, expression, and knowledge production across social classes and contexts. These themes are explored through material mimicry and visual echoes, combining fine craft and provisional skill, and the playful engagement with academic forms and theory.
Describe yourself in three words.
“Wordy, thoughtful, dehydrated.”
Who are your favorite artists/the ones who’ve influenced you most?
“Nadia Myre, Elaine Cameron-Weir, Nico Williams, Rose Nestler, Gabriel Beveridge, Stephanie Temma Hier, Beth Stuart, Eva Hesse, Kate McKinnon and Sam Norgard, and so many others.”
What is your idea of happiness?
“Endless studio, reading and walking time.”
