Building:
Our building is located in the Bloomfield/Garfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh on Penn Avenue. The gallery and residency space are on the second and third floors, and the first floor of our building is a beloved local music venue - Mr. Roboto Projects.

Kitchen:
We have a shared kitchen space with a fridge, freezer, toaster oven, hot plate, microwave, electric kettle, french press, and a useful assortment of dishes. Please note we do NOT have a stove, but we assure you the hot plate and toaster oven can get you through your residency just fine.

Studios/Equipment:
There are 2  studios with plenty of movable work tables, carts, and shelves for your supplies. One of our studios has roof access to a small rooftop area that is great for work that requires ventilation. We have a small array of tools including general hanging supplies, a drill, and handheld circular saw that all residents may use and share for their work.

Gallery:
Our gallery is two adjoining spaces that we use as a whole for group exhibitions and larger solo exhibitions, or separately to host two smaller solo exhibitions at the same time.

Cost & Amenities:

Bunker Projects is free to all accepted applicants. There is no cost to attend a residency at Bunker. Resident artists are responsible for their own food and transportation during their stay. Bunker Projects can provide towels and linens for visiting artists as needed.

Residency Requirements:

Bunker Projects does not have a productivity requirement for residents. We understand that art making is a complicated process, and everyone’s process looks different. Over the years residents have used Bunker Projects as a place to form entire bodies of work, experiment with new processes, research, connect with peers, play, and recharge. While we do not have any requirements for production, we do however ask our residents to donate a portion of their time to help us out during their residency. More information on service hours can be found below.

Service Hours:

During their stay, residents may be called upon to complete up to 10 hours of volunteer service for Bunker Projects. This usually means sitting gallery hours, but if that’s not your jam and you would rather help out with general upkeep, small maintenance tasks, or seasonal tasks, those are options too.

Community Engagement:

Residents may choose how much they want to engage with the public through gallery openings, studios visits, and workshops throughout their stay. Our only requirement is that residents are available for a minimum of one public open studio day during their time at Bunker Projects. These usually happen during gallery openings and closings, but will be scheduled upon residents arrival.

Open Hours/Gallery Hours:

Our gallery is open to the public on Thursdays 5-7pm, Sundays 12-2pm, and for specific programming as scheduled. If we are between exhibitions our space is not open to the public unless there is a scheduled special event.

Travel/
Transportation:

Bunker Projects is situated in a vibrant artistic community and street parking is limited in the area. You can find cultural organizations, grocery stores, and hospitals within walking distance. Pittsburgh public transit can take you from Pittsburgh International Airport, Union Station (Amtrak), and Grant Street Transportation Center, our main bus hall, to our address at Penn Ave. Shared ride apps such as Lyft and Uber are widely available around the City of Bridges.

Pets/Family:

Please let us know if you would like to have a partner or family member visit you during your stay! We assess visitors and pets on a case-to-case basis, but try our best to accommodate.
