Pittsburgh’s Women of Visions, Inc., the longest-running collective of Black women visual artists in the U.S., has opened WoVen in Time at Bunker Projects. The pieces will be on view through Jan. 31, 2025.
WoVen in Time features a selection of work that Women of Vision showed at Spectrum Miami/Red Dot Miami during Art Basel. The pieces include include textiles, quilts and paintings by WoV members Cynthia Kenderson, Ashley A. Jones, Rell Rushin, Janet Watkins, Christine CMC Bethea, Edie Smith, Ashante Josey, Marlana Adele Vassar, LaVerrne Kemp, Mary Martin, Annette Jackson, Colette Funches, Jameelah Platt, Brenda Brown, Altha Pittrell, Charlotte Ka, Janel Young, Morgan Overton and Ruth Bedeian.
“Woven in Time speaks to the engagement of art making and what artists are experiencing at certain points in their lives,” says artist Christine CMC Bethea, past president of Women of Visions, Inc. “Each woman tells her story, sometimes with sorrow, but often with wit and humor. We hope those attending the exhibition will enjoy every effort.”
“We’re thrilled to have these exquisite pieces on view at Bunker Projects,” says Jessie Rommelt, Bunker Projects’ co-founder and creative director. “Bunker Projects and Women of Visions have a longtime relationship, and we both share a commitment to celebrating Pittsburgh’s vibrant, diverse art scene and artists.”
WoVen in Time can be viewed during Bunker Projects’ weekly gallery hours: Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 12-2 p.m., through Jan. 31, 2025.
